6270A firmware update instructions, by USB cable

Updating the firmware (embedded software) of a 6270A pressure controller is very easy and only requires a USB cable, a computer with a USB port and the firmware files.

The current main version is 1.11 and was released June 2022. The name of the download file is 6270A vNNN (where NNN is the firmware version number)

The current PCM version is 1.04 and was released January 28, 2019. The name of the download file is 6270 PCM vNNN (where NNN is the firmware version number)

Until the below web pages are updated, v1.11 of the main firmware is attached to this article and can be downloaded at the link at the end of this article.

View the instructions and download the firmware file(s) from the following web page. Note that you must have a login to the website to download the firmware. A "Login" link is on the same web page if you need to register.

If you prefer to update by 9-pin RS232 null modem cable, then view this page,

You can also view the changes, fixes and additions for each revision on the above pages.

The 6270A Operators Manual and Programmers Manual were updated in mid-2018 with new features and commands of the new firmware. Manuals can be downloaded from this page,

Which features are new, ist's hard to find out in the manual? Will there be a future release, where e.g. the leakage test can be started via command?

See this web page for 6270A firmware change log that notes new, added or changed features,

Leak Check is in the Tasks screen on the 6270A, and these are nested and/or multi-step functions. Because of that, there are not remote commands to support these. See this article for the logic of a leak test, and a COMPASS for Pressure Test Macro written in VB Script that performs a leak test with a 6270A.

Kyle/Johnny-are you recommending that everyone update their firmware at this time?

I do recommend updating to version Main v1.05 if you don't already have that. The only improvements in Main v1.06 are to some emulation commands, and the ability to use the new PM500 modules.

However, there appears to be a bug in Main v1.06 where the CPS (Contamination Prevention System) doesn't work - so I would not upgrade to that unless there is a compelling reason to do so, and you don't have a CPS. The only version on our website is Main v1.06 so if you need Main v1.05, create a ticket by the link below or by emailing us at and we can get it to you by a ticket, email or FTP.
