Fluke 884xA Timeout When Communicating via LAN

The timeout setting on the 884xA Multimeter is 1 ms, as defined in the firmware. This generally does not result in timeout problems in most network applications. However, some customer networks may result in response times in excess of this 1 ms value, which can present as persistent timeouts.

Making network improvements like reducing the number of hops to reduce response times can help resolve the timeout issues. For example, connecting your PC directly to the 884xA will likely not experience the issue, but if the communication is through multiple hubs across a long distance, response times can easily exceed the 1 ms timeout setting. A popular option when working remotely is to use Remote Desktop or a similar application to connect the remote PC to the local PC which is directly connected to the 884xA.
