Adding standards in MET/CAL v9.1.1

The purpose of this article is to clarify the process and prerequisites for using an asset listed in MET/TEAM as a referenced standard in MET/CAL. This process can be duplicated for any asset in MET/TEAM that you want to use in MET/CAL.

Asset listing in MET/TEAM

In MET/TEAM, add the device to inventory as normal.  Take note of the Barcode (1), ensure valid and current Scheduled Services (2).  Ensure Active (3) and Standard are flagged (4).  The information in the Standard Type as well as the Standard flag are not necessary though they enable better identification within MET/TEAM.

Adding a Standard in MET/CAL

In MET/CAL, you will add the standard by clicking on Configure (1), then Instruments (2) and then click on the Add Button (3).

In the Add Instrument dialogue, you will scroll through the list of system instruments available.  Note that the empty box at the top is not a search screen: this is used for User-configured instruments (discussed later).  Identify the instrument you wish to use and press OK.

Configure the device

On the following screen, you will enter the Barcode for the asset noted earlier.  Complete the fields for Remote Interface, IEEE-488 Address or Serial Port and all other pertinent information.

Some system instruments may have additional options or related auxiliary devices that you are able to select.  In this example of a 5500 multi-product calibrator, you could select the Scope Option, check Extended Performance if the asset is equipped, and any Auxiliary Devices.  If using Auxiliary Devices enter in their barcode from MET/TEAM.

Instrument Alias and FSC

The Alias box is used to add additional name(s) that MET/TEAM will recognize as a flexible standard for a procedure.  A document detailing the use of these flexible standards is attached to this article and is available on the server installation of MET/TEAM (i.e. \\<servername>\ProgramData\Fluke\Help\Manuals) 

An example of a flexible standard is an 8846A precision multimeter being listed as a generic DMM as well as a 8846.  Additionally the FSC line lists all of the MET/CAL FSC calls the system instrument supports in addition to the Alias list.

User Configured Instruments

You may also use equipment not listed in the default selection box that have no built-in driver.  More information can be found in the MET/CAL help file under User Configured Instrument Dialog.  These are User-configured instruments and can be controlled either manually or automated.  They require a MET/TEAM asset record just as previously discussed.  Simply type in the name you wish the device to appear as in the top box.  Completing the instrument information in MET/CAL Instruments Configuration is similar.

You are also given the option of Interface being None: this is for non-remote controlled (manual) instruments. This grays out all but the barcode and interface selections.

As you can see, utilizing equipment listed in MET/TEAM as devices in MET/CAL requires a couple of steps to make the devices usable.  Following the above guide will get you up and running with properly connected and listed equipment.  Further information can be found in the help files supplied with MET/TEAM and MET/CAL.
