Data Checks

Question for all of you more advanced Met/Team users. I am trying to dive into the world of data checks, but have no clue where to start. Do any of you have advice or perhaps some usable data checks that will help me? I would like to start to automate some of the data entry in the system (being past users of On-Time Support) and need some direction.

Ben,

If you go to the Configure menu in MET/TEAM (after logging in as an administrator), you can select the Data Check option. This will pull up a bunch of existing Data Checks that are used in MET/TEAM. We specifically designed a lot of these to act as samples which you can look at and experiment with. Also be sure to view at the inactive Data Cheks as well.

Data Checks are written in a scripting language called JavaScript. There are many resources available online for free regarding this language. Additionally, the MET/TEAM documentation has a bunch of good information as well.

Keep in mind that Data Checks only trigger during a save event.

If you have any specific questions regarding data checks or javascript, I would be more than happy to help!

Thanks for the response. I have seen some of the data checks, but I have some specific things I want to accomplish. For instance, I would like to automate the printing of calibration labels. Is there a way that we could tell the system that once an asset is returned that it should print a label with the information from the most recent work order?

Unfortunately Data Checks do not currently support the ability to remotely initiate printing. That is a cool idea though. I will write this up as a feature request and maybe we can get it in a future build of MET/TEAM.

What other things were you hoping to accomplish with Data Checks?

As I mentioned in my original post, the calibration techs that work here used to use Met/Track with On-Time Support features such as Bar Code Magician. With that functionality, they were able to automate a lot of data entry. I was thinking of a way that we could tell the system to automate commands under certain circumstances. For example, when an item goes into complete status the system could automatically process the return step. Another example would be that when an item is received it could automatically go into a specific status by referencing the value in a particular field. Anything that could help us automate would help by lessening the manual data entry and making the process more repeatable.

Hi Ben

The following can call a crystal report from a datacheck...

 Report.PreviewReport( escape('barcode.rpt'), [{ Key: "nAssetUID", Value: nassetUID_being_processed }]);

I'd like it to print without a preview..
