Need Procedure file help

Has anyone any experience with subdividing their procedure folder in MET/TRACK (MET/BASE)? We need to separate certain procedures. Viewing them in the in Windows Explorer they are all numbered, which doesn’t make them easily identifiable. Looking at the proc.dir I can put a procedure name to each number, but I can’t imagine the time it would take to match up and move procedures one by one as we have a few thousand. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, you really can't separate it. At least not easily. Your best bet is to republish the procedures you want to separate to new proc.dir and delete them from the original (using MET/CAL Editor, not just deleting the pro files.

What version of MET/CAL are you using? Are you on 8 yet? I'd suggest just generating PXE's for all your projects instead, if you are. If not, I'd suggest moving to version 8 so that you can. You would be able to auto-generate projects for all your existing procedures very easily, thanks to the tool that exists in version 8 for doing so.

I always recommend against splitting your proc.dir because it makes the transition to PXEs a pain in the butt (I'm dealing with it now, as our lab had different proc.dir files for each procedure).

Matthew please call support 800-825-7411.  You are in danger of corruptiing you procedure directories to the point that they can't be recovered.

Hey Krista, thanks for the response. I'll give a call when I can, and don't worry, I haven't messed with it.

Thanks for the comments Mike. We are on 8 and I'd like to convert everything to PXE's for the security factor, I was just hoping for a faster solution.

The PXE conversion is pretty easy when you're all in one proc.dir. You can set it up and let it run overnight and come back to all new shiny PXEs in the morning.
