Really long compile times in Met/Cal editor 8.

Hi everyone,

I've had some issues with MET/CAL 8 where it practically freezes up when going into debug mode.

I've verified it on both a Win 7 machine (two different machines, really) and a Win 8 machine.

It seems to be happeneing when the editor is checking for errors in the procedure.

I've tried many different compatability modes, and running MCE as administrator.

I've tried completely local files, as well as networked locations.

It seems to work OK on one procedure I have that only has 11 evaluations, but any more than that (as far as I can tell) and it takes forever.

Fluke hasn't been able to figure it out, and everyone else in my organization is still using MCE 7, so I'm the only one here who's experienced it.

Please help..this is kinda crippling.

Did you try doing a fresh install? I've never seen or heard of this issue anywhere else.

I feel your pain.  I mean really... I feel your pain.. I was once working on a customer's procedure remotely and it took a full hour to compile a procedure!

SO NOW... I do all of my day to day work in MET/CAL 7x.. Then when everything is working... And only if the customer requests it.. I will move it t MET/CAL 8 and recompile it.  Thank God for VMware.

What did you guys do to your computers? I compile procedures with thousands of evaluations and never takes even close to a minute.

Nothing, that I'm aware of. I'm just using the build of Windows that my company has put together.

I've reinstalled a few times in the past.

The only thing I think might be happening is having visual studio 2015 installed on top of MCE.

I've uninstalled VS 2015 and we'll see what happens, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Nick,

You can try to uninstall the Editor and any visual studio.  The required Visual studio is on the CD under ISSetupPrerequisites.

Then try to re-install the editor...

It may be worth a shot.

Thanks Krista :)

I actually downloaded that file from MS (I assume it's the same file, as the file size is identical), because I was getting an error telling me that I was missing one or more components.

Installing it didn't work, but I hadn't tried removing every other instance of VS before installing VS shell.

I'll give that a try :)

Hi Nick, which specific version of the Editor are you using? This can be found under the Help > About menu, and should have four parts (e.g. ver 8.3.2.123)

As a test, please add an ASK- U to the top of the same procedure and compile check again to see if there is a significant speed difference. If it is significantly faster with ASK- U in place, please capture these two Accuracy Trace outputs for us to compare:

For both tests, we need to enable Accuracy Trace Mode under the menu Debug > Trace > Accuracy. Also enable the Output view under the menu View > Output.

  1. If any text is previously present in the Output window, click the red X icon (also in the Output window) to Clear All contents. With ASK- U in place at the top of the procedure, press F9 to compile check the procedure. In the Output window, use the drop-down menu to Show output from: Trace. Copy and paste the contents of the Trace Output into an empty text file.
  2. Remove the ASK- U and repeat step 1.

Save both text files and submit to softwaresupport@flukecal.com for review, and please include a link to this thread.

Thank you!

Ok, I completely uninstalled all VS instances on my computer, as well as all Fluke software (except Manual MET/CAL).

Then, I reinstalled MET/Track 8 and MET/CAL 8 and got errors when installing MC. I've attached picture of the errors.

Now, when I attempt to run MC, I get a different error, which I think is related to the error I got when I installed it. I've attached a picture of that error, as well.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Chad,

As soon as I can get MET/CAL open, I'll attempt your suggestion frown

Nick,

did you run the visual studio from the prerequisites?

The first two errors are windows installer bugs and can be ignored.  The third should be fixed if you install VS from the ISSetupPrequesites folder.

I did, and I'm still getting the error :(

For clarification, I ran the VS instal from prerequisites and chose the "repair" option.

Should I uninstall VS shell completely and rerun the installation from the prerequisites folder?
