No Response from 8648

Hello all,

I am having a problem using my 8468C signal generator in a procedure I am writing. When I try to run the prodedure in the editor or runtime it displays a response "No response from 8648"

I downloaded the 8496A procedure as a test (it uses the 8648 as a standard) and I get the same response.

I can communicate with my 8648C outside of Metcal but does not seen to work with the procedure

The line of code is...

8648  1500MH     5D    -D   S

However, it does not even get to this line. It displays the reponse during the initial startup of the procedure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn on IEEE-488 I/O trace and see what your 8648 is returning.

I was just getting ready to update my post with that info.. Thanks

The trace showed "  ib_trd : 0-10 : Hewlett-Packard,<sp>HP8648C,<sp>3623A03391,<sp>B.04.03<lf>

Did you configure it as "HP 8648", no suffix?  It will only be recognized for use with the 8648 FSC it is configured as "HP 8648".  That is the System Instrument associated with the 8648 FSC.  It you configure it with any other name, MET/CAL will consider it a User-configured Instrument (e.g. no FSC).

Yes,  It is configured as "HP 8648"   I did notice that if I "Ignore" the response it will continue with the procedure and actually setup the HP 8648 as requested. Although I have to press "Ignore" two times before it passes the setup instructions.

So as it is, it works but I have to press "Ignore" two times to allow the procedure to continue for each 8648 comand line.

I wish I knew why???

Thanks
