Import - Run Import

Hello all,

I have been using MET/Team  for a little bit now but have currently run into a problem concerning Import-Data Directory. I am still new to this software so hopefully this is a oversight on my part.

I was following the demonstration videos to aid imports but am unable to run import due to the pop-up (attached below). My assumption is that it may be due to the fact that it is looking at C:\Temp\import rather than where the program is running from. Although, I have tried getting it to run from its server to no avail. For reasons unknown to me, MET is not seeing any directory I insert.

I am not exactly sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

The Temp folder on C:\ was not liked so I put it to just C:\. Error disappeared.

Unfortunately now the import creates an error for unassigned columns. I have rechecked the columns and they are all assigned. I did initially have some issues with column assignment when creating the import definition, so I will have to see if simply recreating it will solve this issue.

Redoing the Import Definition solved my issue earlier, it had to be inputted perfectly at one time.

Currently, progress in program freezes in import. Won’t go past 33% for a 4Byte file. From what I can see, it does partially update the Asset but never completely.

I have tried this multiple times with different filenames on import definitions and setups to no avail.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

*Update* All fields are being updated except for those under the Type field.

Hello Juan,

Import definitions are validated when you close the Import Defintion screen. Validation means it makes sure that all dependent columns from related tables are included.

When you upload your data file into the definition screen, it will determine if the number of columns defined matches the number of columns in the data file.

This will make sure that both the definitions are valid and that they match the number of columns in the data file.

The system default for the Import - Import Data Directory references a directory on the MET/TEAM server. I would not recommend using the root of c:\, because servers are picky what can be stored there and it may clutter up the root. I would recommend a folder under C:\inetpub\wwwroot\METTEAM\ or maybe
C:\ProgramData\Fluke\METTEAM\ instead. For a standalone system this wouldn't matter as much.

For the apparent freeze, I have not seen this before, it may have terminated abnormally, although it says it completed. For troubleshooting, can you attach a sample data record / mockup, along with the definition for each column?

Thanks Mike for the reply. Much of what you mentioned makes sense.

I am not sure what the hang up was with the freeze but I suspect the delimited text file. I changed the information in the file, this was successful. No freeze. Although, the Type field is not updating at all in the Asset. I have not found any reason for this yet.

Note: I don't think this file will cause a freeze. The file that caused the freeze I have already deleted.

I ran with your test data and had no freezing or unexpected behavior. I made one change to your definition, Assets.cInterval isn't really used anymore, I changed it to AssetServices.cInterval - it may have been a typo. Looking at one of the assets it created, I see what I would expect. The asset has neither description nor model, if you want that populated the same way as the type, simply copy the data columns from the type data and add the headers Assets.cModelNumber and Assets.nManufacturerUID. Other than that, it looks good. I'm attaching a screen shot and the files used (the def file can be uploaded into the Import Definition screen).

Of course I meant Assets.cDescription, not Assets.nManufacturerUID, the latter is automatically taken from the type if not specified explicitly.

Thank you very much for the response Mike. It is appreciated. I was out of state for a few weeks and was glad to see your suggestions.

 Once again, thanks.
